Job summary

DLBA Naval Architects – A Division of Leidos Gibbs & Cox seeks a Naval Architect to be embedded with the US Navy’s NSWCCD Code 83, providing onsite support at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek–Fort Story. You will perform multidisciplinary design, analysis, and testing for small craft (<300 ft).

The role requires a BS/BA in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering, plus at least 2 years of experience, proficiency in AutoCAD and Rhino, and strong teamwork and communication skills.

Qualifications

• B.S. Degree or higher in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ engineering experience (non-nuclear).
• Broad knowledge of marine engineering and related technologies.
• Regulatory knowledge: BS/RINA/LR/ISO/USCG/ABYC.
• Proficiency with CAD software: AutoCAD and Rhino.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and detailed engineering calculations using first principles hand calculations.
• Assist client teams in design of boats and craft; apply existing design skills and procedures.
• Collaborate with teammates to develop small craft design solutions.
• Provide onsite naval architecture service to NSWCCD Code 83 at Little Creek–Fort Story.
• Overarching vessel design 3D modeling and drawings.
• Hydrostatics/hydrodynamics: stability, resistance, propulsion estimates.
• Structural/scantling design with FEA analysis.
