Job Summary

Responsible for routine design calculations and drawing development for the construction, maintenance, and repair of maritime vessels and shipboard systems including structural, propulsion, electrical, and hydraulic mechanics. Reports to: Chief Department Engineer & Project Department Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine design calculations and drawing development for ships and systems.
• Comply with company handbook, procedures, and policies.
• Interact with production, multiple design teams, customer representatives, and equipment manufacturers.
• Use AutoCAD and MS Office for design work.
• Determine technical adequacy of drawings and calculations.

Qualifications

• 0 to 3 years of related engineering, design or construction experience or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or related engineering discipline (at time of hire).
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and scheduling.
• Computer literate with AutoCAD and MS Office.
• Experience with steel and aluminum ship construction is preferred.
• Knowledge of modular construction, US Navy vessels, shock design, ship & propulsion systems, maritime regulatory authorities (ABS, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, etc.).
• Knowledge of FEA methods and experience with FEMAP/NASTRAN a plus.
• Understanding of vessel structural design, trim, stability and hydrostatic calculations.

Additional Guidelines

• Must be at least 18 years old and able to provide proof of US Person Status.
• Must submit to drug screen and background check.
• May need to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.
• No felony convictions of theft, deception, or violent crimes within 7 years, or drug crimes within 3 years of disposition.
