Job summary

AmeriCorps State / National program is seeking a Natural Resources Technician to join FCNRCD/VHCB efforts in Vermont. This full-time service role supports tree plantings, soil sampling, restoration site maintenance, and outreach activities during a 1720-hour, 47-week term.

You will develop program tracking systems, assist with public education events, and engage landowners and communities to protect water quality and natural resources.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in the annual tree and trout sale during ordering, inventory, and pick-up periods.
• Participate in ecosystem restoration field tasks, including tree plantings, restoration site maintenance, and willow stake harvesting.
• Assist in fall soil sampling at Franklin County farms.
• Create and update program tracking systems including: volunteers, event/outreach, natural resources and water quality projects, blog planning, and ArcGIS Online mapping of clean water projects.
• Implement outreach, site visits, and clean water projects
• Plan, organize, and host public education events
• Assist with Watershed Science 101 program in Franklin County schools and other education opportunities for youth -Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives.

Job description

The Natural Resources Technician will join Franklin County Natural Resources Conservation District's (FCNRCD) Natural Resources team and support the planning and implementation of natural resources and water quality projects, as well as the creation of systems that enhance FCNRCD's outreach efforts. Conduct tree plantings, soil sampling, and restoration site maintenance, plus conduct research on projects to support landowners and community members. The Franklin County Natural Resources Conservation District empowers and partners with land stewards and communities on the ground by supporting connections that benefit natural resources, water quality, soil health, and the working landscape in Franklin County and across Northwest Vermont. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. This position is Full Time: Requires 1720hours for an average of 40 hours per week for 47 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $31,000 (pre-tax) for the service term. Member will receive an education award of $7,395 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities.
