Job summary

Black & Veatch Corporation in Irvine, CA is seeking a Staff Natural Resources Biologist to lead wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and CEQA/NEPA documentation across the Western US, with a focus on California.

The role requires 5–7 years of hands-on fieldwork, strong reporting, and collaboration with agencies and multidisciplinary teams. Hybrid work is offered after 90 days within an ESOP-owned company.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology, ecology, environmental science, natural resources or related field.
• 5+ years of environmental consulting experience with emphasis on biological resources.
• Experience with CEQA/NEPA analyses and permitting.

Responsibilities

• Lead wetland and waters delineations, habitat assessments, vegetation mapping, and field evaluations.
• Conduct special-status species surveys and biological data collection.
• Prepare biological resource analyses for CEQA/NEPA and develop avoidance/mitigation measures.
• Identify and interpret local, state, and federal regulations and permit requirements.
• Prepare permit applications and supporting materials for agencies (USACE, RWQCBs, CDFW, USFWS).
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and project teams to define study needs and permitting strategies.
• Provide technical writing and documentation to support projects.
