Lower Colorado River Authority is seeking a Natural Resource Conservation Coordinator to join our boots-on-the-ground field team in Texas. You will travel to properties, apply science-based habitat management, and help balance wildlife populations while prioritizing safety.

This role emphasizes field data collection, collaboration with local authorities, and public engagement at regional field days and workshops to advance conservation goals.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of experience in natural resource management or a related field.
• Driver's license.
• NWCG Single Resource Boss Qualification or higher for incumbents volunteering for prescribed burning.
• Class A Texas commercial driver's license or equivalent for heavy equipment operation.
• Active Texas handgun license and TPWD hunting license for wildlife duties.

Responsibilities

• Implement habitat and land management actions including brush control and restoration, and collect field data to assess outcomes.
• Conduct wildlife management tasks such as population surveys, deer harvests, and feral hog monitoring.
• Assist with prescribed burns, ensuring safety and coordination with local fire authorities.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as skid steers, tractors, and forestry mulchers safely.
• Enhance community engagement by participating in regional field days and workshops.
• Adhere to safety protocols, maintain certifications, and complete required reports.

How You'll Contribute

• Implement habitat and land management actions like brush control, native vegetation restoration, invasive species reduction, and road/trail fuel break maintenance. You'll also collect field data to assess outcomes.
• Conduct wildlife management tasks such as population surveys, deer harvests, and feral hog monitoring.
• Assist with prescribed burns, ensuring safety and coordination with local fire authorities.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment like skid steers, tractors, and forestry mulchers safely.
• Enhance community engagement by participating in, and potentially presenting at, regional field days and workshops.
• Adhere to safety protocols, maintaining certifications, and completing required reports.

How You're Qualified

• Four or more years of experience in natural resource management or other relevant experience. A degree(s) in agriculture, natural resource management, range management, wildlife management or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
• Driver's license
• For incumbents who volunteer to participate in prescribed burning activities: NWCG Single Resource Boss Qualification or higher
• Class A Texas commercial driver's license or equivalent from another state, for incumbents performing heavy equipment operation
• Active Texas handgun license and active Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) hunting license required for duties relating to wildlife management with a firearm

How You'll Stand Out

• Proficiency in field data collection and GPS/mapping technology
• Experience in land/habitat management, including prescribed fire, heavy machinery operation, and regulated deer harvesting.
• Experience with safe and responsible firearm handling
• Effective communication skills
