Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Practice Director for Water and Resource Recovery in Chicago, IL. You will lead national strategy, growth, and technical excellence across water/wastewater disciplines, guiding engineering managers and delivery teams while aligning with clients and markets.

This role requires a PE license and 15+ years of experience in water infrastructure, with proven leadership in multi-disciplinary projects, business development, and client relations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline required.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
• Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible experience in water, wastewater, reuse, biosolids, resource recovery, or related infrastructure consulting and engineering.
• Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams, business operations, growth initiatives, and complex engineering projects.
• Excellent leadership, communication, technical writing, collaboration, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership and Business Growth: develop and implement a comprehensive national strategy to grow water-related practices, define regional growth initiatives, and pursue high-value consulting and engineering opportunities.
• Technical Leadership and Collaboration: champion technical excellence, lead cross-office collaboration, and maintain technical standards and innovation programs.
• Staff Leadership and Organizational Development: recruit, mentor, and develop staff; establish succession planning and professional growth pathways.
• Project Delivery and Quality Management: ensure staffing, oversee quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction; maintain QA/QC.
• Marketing, Visibility, and Industry Leadership: lead BD activities, develop technical content, and strengthen market presence.
