Job summary

Freese and Nichols, Inc. seeks a National Technical Leader for Integrated Planning to steer Urban Planning + Design, Water/Wastewater Master Planning, and Water Resources Planning.

You will establish standards, tools, and training to ensure consistent, high-quality project delivery across offices. You will partner with practice leaders, promote innovation, and guide technical direction while supporting growth for municipal clients across the firm.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience with leadership in complex projects and proposal development.
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to achieve results.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience developing practice-wide standards, processes, and tools.
  • Experience building technical training programs and supporting long-term capability development.
  • Experience presenting at conferences and engaging with technical committees.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Practice Leaders to align market needs with internal capabilities, strengths, and gaps.
  • Set and communicate technical direction for consistent delivery across teams.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement practice standards, processes, and tools.
  • Coordinate quality leadership across the practice, including senior advisors and group leaders.
  • Build and drive technical training pathways from onboarding through advanced practice expertise.
  • Sponsor innovation and R&D efforts to improve delivery.
  • Collaborate on applied technology enablement (GIS, AI, VDC) to support needs.
  • Lead growth of Integrated Planning capabilities for local client engagements.

As National Technical Leader, you will set the technical direction of the three practices that individually underpin our Integrated Planning capabilities (Urban Planning + Design, Water/Wastewater Master Planning, and Water Resources Planning) and strengthen consistency and quality by working with a team to build the standards, tools, and training that help teams deliver great work across the firm. A critical part of this role is also leadership of the growth our Integrated Planning capabilities when our local clients need to engage all three capabilities equally to deliver on their economic development and quality of life objectives for their residents.
