Base pay range

Job Title: National Field Strategy Director

Location: Remote, U.S. (with national travel)

Reports To: Executive Leadership (CEO)

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Salary Range: $7,500-$10,000 monthly, commensurate with experience

Start Date: May 2025

Position Summary

The National Field Strategy Director leads When We Mobilize’s voter engagement and field operations strategy across the country. This executive-level role is responsible for designing, managing, and scaling national voter registration and GOTV operations, overseeing regional directors and state-level programs, and ensuring compliance, equity, and high performance across all programs. The ideal candidate is a seasoned strategist and operations manager with a strong command of field organizing, coalition politics, and compliance environments across multiple states.

Key Responsibilities
Program Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop and execute the national strategy for voter registration, GOTV, and other civic field programs in alignment with WWM’s mission and goals.
  • Design multi-state program plans that center equity and scale impact in communities of color and underrepresented areas.
  • Ensure program alignment across regions and adjust strategies based on real-time data, partner feedback, and political dynamics.
Team Oversight & Capacity Building
  • Directly manage Regional Directors of Electoral Strategy and support them in state-level planning, team development, and execution.
  • Lead senior staff hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development to build a high-performing national field team.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, equity, and collaboration across regions and teams.
Operational Excellence
  • Oversee program compliance, quality control, and field metrics across all WWM programs.
  • Establish systems for real-time monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of field operations.
  • Ensure all electoral programs follow federal and state laws, including 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC regulations.
Partnership & Political Engagement
  • Represent WWM in national coalitions, strategy tables, funder briefings, and industry events.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with state-based civic organizations, grassroots groups, and key movement allies.
  • Provide ongoing political analysis to leadership and adapt strategy based on shifting political landscapes.
Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Oversee national accounts and key multi-state partnerships to ensure goals and deliverables are met.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on scopes of work, program reports, and business development opportunities.
  • Work with communications and development teams to elevate the profile of WWM’s field leadership and national impact.
Qualifications
Required:
  • 7+ years of experience in civic engagement, field operations, or electoral campaigns, including 3+ years in a national or executive-level leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing multi-state voter registration and GOTV programs.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing senior staff and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with tools such as VAN, PDI, or equivalents, and experience with data-informed program management.
  • Deep knowledge of electoral compliance rules and organizing environments for 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC entities.
  • Commitment to racial equity and movement-building in BIPOC communities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% and work nontraditional hours during campaign peaks.
Preferred:
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets and campaign infrastructure.
  • Existing relationships with national coalitions, civic tech platforms, or progressive funders.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
