Job summary

Stantec is seeking a US Distribution Engineering Manager to lead and coordinate the Distribution Line engineering and design practice across the United States. This high-visibility role shapes strategy, elevates technical delivery, and builds an integrated coast-to-coast practice aligned with client objectives.

Reporting to the Power Delivery Operations Manager, you will guide distributed teams, mentor engineers, drive workforce planning, and ensure projects meet quality and safety standards

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to lead engineering managers and geographically distributed technical teams.
• Strong knowledge of the U.S. electric utility distribution market.
• Understanding of distribution systems from 4 kV through 35 kV, including overhead and underground.
• Experience delivering distribution engineering programs including grid modernization and asset replacement initiatives.
• Familiarity with utility design standards, construction practices, and operating procedures.
• Industry relationships and credibility within the Distribution sector.
• Experience with business development, client engagement, capture planning, proposals and interviews.
• Experience with reliability, hardening, resilience, and DER interconnections in utility programs.
• Proven ability to deliver Distribution line engineering and design projects.
• Experience managing resources, priorities, quality, and delivery risk across multiple projects.
• Ability to align teams across offices and markets.
• Mentoring and developing employees and rising leaders.
• Familiarity with utility distribution design and analysis tools (CYME, Synergi, DDS, GIS).
• Strong business judgment and communication skills.
• Collaboration with operations leaders, account managers, and project teams.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% and hold a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Lead the U.S. Distribution practice as a single integrated national team.
• Provide leadership and performance oversight to distribution line engineering managers and teams.
• Develop and execute the strategic vision, growth plan, and operational objectives for the U.S. Distribution line practice.
• Drive utilization, workforce planning, and resource management.
• Mentor team members and provide technical guidance.
• Track progress and KPIs through leadership and project meetings.
• Balance workload and ensure profitable project delivery.
• Staff and execute projects per Stantec standards.
• Support major distribution programs and pursuits.
• Support recruitment, succession planning, and professional development.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Identify capability gaps and strengthen technical leadership.
