Job summary

Sharing Excess Inc. is seeking a National Community Engagement Director to lead vision, strategy, and execution of nationwide engagement efforts.

The role focuses on building a scalable, people-centered ecosystem that drives volunteerism, grows partnerships, and expands grassroots impact across the United States. You will oversee volunteer pathways, chapter development, national partnerships, and community storytelling, ensuring alignment with growth and mission delivery.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in community engagement or related fields, including national or multi-site leadership.
• Proven success building and scaling engagement programs, volunteer systems, or grassroots initiatives.
• Experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
• Strong strategic thinking with the ability to execute and operationalize ideas at scale.
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building across diverse audiences.
• Experience using data and metrics to drive decision-making.

Responsibilities

• National Strategy & Leadership: Design and execute a comprehensive national community engagement strategy aligned with organizational growth goals.
• National Strategy & Leadership: Build scalable systems for volunteer recruitment, onboarding, retention, and leadership development.
• National Strategy & Leadership: Serve as the organizational leader for community engagement, setting vision, priorities, and success metrics.
• Team & Infrastructure Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing national community engagement team.
• Team & Infrastructure Development: Develop frameworks, toolkits, and systems that ensure consistency and excellence across all regions.
• Team & Infrastructure Development: Create clear pathways for volunteer leadership, including ambassador and chapter models.
• Volunteer & Community Engagement: Oversee national volunteer pipeline development to support operational and programmatic needs.
• Volunteer & Community Engagement: Build innovative engagement initiatives that deepen connection, retention, and long-term commitment.
• Volunteer & Community Engagement: Champion a culture where volunteers are recognized as core mission drivers.
• Volunteer & Community Engagement: Own strategy and execution for national and local education on Sharing Excess mission and community.
• Partnerships & External Engagement: Establish and grow strategic partnerships with community organizations, corporations, and local leaders.
• Partnerships & External Engagement: Represent Sharing Excess at national conferences, convenings, and public forums.
• Partnerships & External Engagement: Collaborate with communications to elevate community voices and tell impactful stories.
• Chapter & Network Expansion: Lead the expansion of Sharing Excess’s chapter model across key markets.
