Job summary

Amazon Leo is seeking a Time Transfer and Synchronization Engineer to design, implement, and monitor high-precision timing architectures across terrestrial and space-based networks, achieving nanosecond-level accuracy over RF and optical links.

You will work with cross-functional teams to validate protocols (PTP/NTP, TWSTFT, GNSS), build operational monitoring, and analyze performance, contributing to scalable, reliable network time synchronization for satellite and ground systems.

Qualifications

• PhD, or Master’s degree and 4+ years of quantitative field research experience
• Experience investigating feasibility of applying scientific principles to business problems and products
• Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets
• Experience in complex problem solving, and working in a tight schedule environment
• Experience with data analysis tools such as Advanced Excel, SQL, Tableau, Python
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
• Proven experience with various time transfer protocols and metrology equipment
• Experience with clock characterization and frequency stability analysis

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and validate time transfer systems using multiple methodologies including PTP/NTP, TWSTFT, GNSS Common View, GNSS All in View or other protocols
• Implement time transfer over RF and optical links
• Evaluate and integrate emerging time transfer technologies to achieve nanosecond level timing accuracy
• Design and build an operational system to monitor the performance of clock synchronization architecture
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on satellite timing systems, ground gateway operations, and network time synchronization
• Conduct performance analysis and troubleshooting of timing systems across distributed infrastructure
