Role: MySQL and Oracle/SQL Database Administrator
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently perform all aspects of relational database management for MySQL and Oracle/MS SQL, including but not limited to – installation, configuration, patching, migration, PLM/upgrade, and operational support – in on-premises and public cloud environments.
- Automate repeatable database tasks using shell scripting, Chef and/or Ansible to drive efficiency, enhance quality and reduce human errors.
- Design and implement effective backup and recovery strategy for databases to ensure timely restoration, as needed.
- Establish and maintain database security policies, manage user access, and monitor databases to ensure data is protected from unauthorized access, ransomware, or breaches.
- Design and implement strategies to ensure high availability and database resiliency in the event of a disaster.
- Proactively analyze database systems for performance tuning, remove bottlenecks, and make recommendations to reduce database response times and enhance efficiency.
- Collaborate with peer DBAs, application development groups, system administrators, and other IT professionals to support database-related projects and address operational issues.
- Refresh lower environments as needed by other teams to facilitate testing and development.
- Develop infrastructure, infrastructure tools, and documentation during project phases.
- Provide on-call operational support for Production databases and answer severity calls for problem resolution.
Required Skills:
- At least 5 years of experience with all aspects of MySQL database management on UNIX, including but not limited to – installation, configuration, patching, migration, PLM/upgrade, and operational support.
- 5+ years of on-call experience in supporting multiple mission critical MySQL production databases.
- 3+ years of experience in developing shell scripts and Chef recipes to automate database installs and maintenance activities on UNIX platform.
- 3+ years of experience in supporting Oracle databases on UNIX, or MS SQL databases on Windows.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in migrating MySQL databases from on-premises to Public Cloud, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Experience in developing PowerShell scripts for MS SQL databases on Windows platform or supporting Oracle databases in multi-tenant architecture on Exadata platform.
- Working knowledge of Ansible.
Certifications: Relevant certifications in SQL, data analysis, or Python are a plus.
