Job description

Role: MySQL and Oracle/SQL Database Administrator

Key Responsibilities:

1. Independently perform all aspects of relational database management for MySQL and Oracle/MS SQL, including but not limited to – installation, configuration, patching, migration, PLM/upgrade, and operational support – in on-premises and public cloud environments.
2. Automate repeatable database tasks using shell scripting, Chef and/or Ansible to drive efficiency, enhance quality and reduce human errors.
3. Design and implement effective backup and recovery strategy for databases to ensure timely restoration, as needed.
4. Establish and maintain database security policies, manage user access, and monitor databases to ensure data is protected from unauthorized access, ransomware, or breaches.
5. Design and implement strategies to ensure high availability and database resiliency in the event of a disaster.
6. Proactively analyze database systems for performance tuning, remove bottlenecks, and make recommendations to reduce database response times and enhance efficiency.
7. Collaborate with peer DBAs, application development groups, system administrators, and other IT professionals to support database-related projects and address operational issues.
8. Refresh lower environments as needed by other teams to facilitate testing and development.
9. Develop infrastructure, infrastructure tools, and documentation during project phases.
10. Provide on-call operational support for Production databases and answer severity calls for problem resolution.

Required Skills:

1. At least 5 years of experience with all aspects of MySQL database management on UNIX, including but not limited to – installation, configuration, patching, migration, PLM/upgrade, and operational support.
2. 5+ years of on-call experience in supporting multiple mission critical MySQL production databases.
3. 3+ years of experience in developing shell scripts and Chef recipes to automate database installs and maintenance activities on UNIX platform.
4. 3+ years of experience in supporting Oracle databases on UNIX, or MS SQL databases on Windows.

Preferred Skills:

1. Experience in migrating MySQL databases from on-premises to Public Cloud, preferably Microsoft Azure.
2. Experience in developing PowerShell scripts for MS SQL databases on Windows platform or supporting Oracle databases in multi-tenant architecture on Exadata platform.
3. Working knowledge of Ansible.

Certifications: Relevant certifications in SQL, data analysis, or Python are a plus.
