Job summary

Charles Town Races is seeking a ticket seller to handle pari-mutuel transactions with patrons in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. You will sell and cash tickets, maintain cash levels, and coordinate with security when needed, ensuring ticket validity and a positive guest experience.

The role requires basic math, reading and communication skills, and the ability to stand for extended periods while assisting guests and enforcing safety measures at the facility.

Qualifications

• No high school diploma required; or up to one month of related experience.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
• Ability to read simple instructions and memos; communicate clearly with patrons.
• Basic math for cash handling and ticket calculations.
• Must meet licensing or regulatory requirements.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 10 pounds.

Requirements

• Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires a working knowledge of all types of wagering.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Must meet licensing requirements of the West Virginia Racing Commission.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
