Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as the coordinator of music theory at the rank of assistant or associate professor. Start date is August 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will coordinate music theory, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory and aural skills, and participate in curriculum redesign and assessment development while mentoring students on both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in music theory or composition by appointment date.
• Three (3) years of full-time teaching at the collegiate level by appointment date.
• Applicants with experience as an area coordinator, degree coordinator, or similar leadership role in music theory and aural skills will receive special consideration.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate classes in music theory and aural skills.
• Coordinate music theory curriculum and participate in curriculum redesign.
• Develop course and assessment materials and establish learning outcomes.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and committees as needed.
