Job summary

Case Western Reserve University invites applications for an Assistant Professor on the tenure track in the Department of Music, beginning July 1, 2027. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of the music theory curriculum and join a vibrant community of scholars.

The role includes coordinating the music theory program, a teaching load of two courses per semester, student advising, and service to the department and college.

Qualifications

• PhD in music theory (or PhD in music with primary specialization in music theory and analysis) by July 31, 2027.
• Active program of research and publication in music theory and analysis.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
• Keyboard/musicianship skills necessary to lead core classroom and aural skills instruction.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the music theory program.
• Teach two courses per semester drawn from foundational theory, aural skills pedagogy, or department electives.
• Advise students and participate in departmental/service activities.
