Job summary

Andover Public Schools invites an experienced music educator to lead the Instrumental ConcertBand program. You will teach concert band courses, coordinate with classroom music programs when appropriate, and support middle school bands across campuses.

You will conduct performances, supervise rehearsals, and help expand the music program with a collaborative, inclusive approach while meeting school-day travel requirements.

Qualifications

  • Massachusetts certification in music, K-12 (General/Instrumental/Choral).
  • Training or coursework in instrumental music education.
  • Prior high and middle school teaching preferred.
  • Competency on all concert band instruments with proficiency in at least one wind/brass instrument.
  • Experience leading marching, pep, jazz bands or ensembles is strongly preferred.
  • Positive, energetic, flexible approach to instruction and rehearsal; inclusive teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct/rehearse concert band at Andover High School and support three middle schools.
  • Coordinate curriculum, events and concerts with other music teachers.
  • Conduct ensembles for performances, in- and out-of-school year.
  • Instruct additional music classes as needed.
  • Position requires transportation between buildings during the day.
  • Fulfill all other duties as requested.

Job description

Andover Public Schools has a strong commitment to music education and are looking for a dedicated, compassionate musician/educator to lead and support our band program.

Under the direction of the Fine Arts Coordinator and the principal, the Instrumental ConcertBand teacher will teach our concert band courses, will coordinate music program with classroom programs when appropriate, and will support the Middle School bands at each Middle School. The music teacher will be responsible for all appropriate concerts and productions.

  • 1. Instruct/rehearse concert band at Andover High School and support all Andover’s three middle schools.
  • 2. Work with other music teachers to coordinate curriculum, events and concerts.
  • 3. Conduct ensembles for performances, in and out of the school day, throughout the school year.
  • 4. Instruct additional music classes as needed
  • 5. Position requires transportation between buildings during the school day.
  • 6. All other required duties as requested.
  • 1. Massachusetts certification, Music (General, Instrumental, Choral) K-12.
  • 2. Training and/ or academic coursework in instrumental music education.
  • 3. Previous high and middle school teaching preferred.
  • 4. Functional proficiency on all concert band instruments
  • 5. Highly proficient on at least one wind or brass instrument
  • 6. Prior experience leading marching band, pep band, jazz band, or other ensembles (strongly preferred)
  • 7. Positive, energetic, and flexible approach to a process-based and inclusive style of instruction/ rehearsal.
  • 8. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
