Summary

Samuel Staples Elementary is seeking a passionate and dedicated General Music/Band Teacher to join our vibrant educational community. The ideal candidate will foster a love for music among students, develop their musical skills, and create an engaging learning environment. This part-time position requires a commitment to nurturing creativity and encouraging students to express themselves through music.

Position Details

This is a .4 Music Position: 1 day teaching general music K-5, the other day teaching band to 5th grade. Responsible for programming two concerts (Feb and May)

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum for students in grades K-5, focusing on general music education and band instruction.
  • Teach music theory, instrumental techniques, vocal techniques, and music appreciation to students of varying skill levels.
  • Plan and lead engaging music lessons that incorporate a variety of musical genres and cultural traditions.
  • Organize and conduct school performances, concerts, and other music-related events to showcase student talent.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback and support to help them improve their musical abilities.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate music into the broader educational experience.
  • Maintain an organized and welcoming classroom environment that encourages creativity and exploration.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and music program updates.
  • Stay current with music education trends, teaching methods, and curriculum developments.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of music education.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in music education.
  • Proven experience teaching music in a classroom setting, preferably at the elementary level.
  • Proficiency in playing multiple musical instruments and/or vocal instruction.
  • Strong understanding of music theory, history, and pedagogy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive school culture.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A passion for music and a commitment to fostering a love for the arts in students.
  • Willingness to participate in school events and activities outside of regular school hours.
