Qualifications

  • Experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge and skill in phonetics for reading and pronunciation.
  • Computer knowledge and experience with word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, etc.

  • Prepares and delivers lessons in accordance with the district music curriculum.

  • Correlates music with other aspects of the curriculum, such as language arts, social studies, science, and art.
  • Works with the elementary music teacher and Building Administrator to provide appropriate music instruction.
  • Encourages and motivates enjoyment of various styles of music by listening and evaluating.
  • Maintains student files and tracks progress in accordance with district guidelines.
  • Assists with class and/or school productions.
  • Supports planning with other specialists for lessons and activities.
  • Assists classroom teachers in coordinating the music education curriculum.
  • Promotes safety and follows district discipline policy.

II. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A. Demonstrated knowledge relative to teaching the basics of music – melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and note reading.
  • B. Ability to organize instructional activities, promotional activities, and general program management activities.
  • C. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public.
  • D. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory.
  • E. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • F. Knowledge and skill in the teaching and use of math and reading including the ability to pronounce vowels, consonants, phrases, and words in phonetically correct manner.
  • G. Ability to administer standardized and other diagnostic tests.
  • H. Computer knowledge and experience with work processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, etc.
III. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator.
IV. JOB GOALS:

To support the delivery of School District 91's written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.

To develop in each student an appreciation of music and to help students develop musical knowledge and skills.

V. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • A. Prepares and delivers lessons in accordance with the district music curriculum.
  • B. Teaches the basics of music – melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and note reading.
  • D. Correlates music with other aspects of the curriculum, such as language arts, social studies, science, and art.
  • E. Works with the elementary music teacher and Building Administrator to provide appropriate music instruction.
  • F. Encourages and motivates the enjoyment and appreciation of various styles of music by listening and evaluating.
  • G. Provides music methods and materials as a resource to teachers and students.
  • H. Assists with class and/or school productions.
  • I. Works with other specialists in planning and preparing activities and lessons for classes.
  • J. Assists classroom teachers in coordinating the music education curriculum.
  • K. Assists school administration in providing special performing groups for special occasions, PTO meetings, assemblies, and district music events as requested.
  • L. Attends in-service classes, building meetings, and district meetings as requested.
  • M. Administers reading and math tests to identify the level of student achievement.
  • N. Works with small groups of students and with individual students in reading and math.
  • O. Maintains student files as requested and required by the needs of federal, state and local guidelines to track student progress.
  • P. Prepares tutoring area and assists students on arrival and departure from tutoring area.
  • Q. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • R. Has regular and predictable attendance.
  • S. Supervises students at playtime and lunch and maintains harmonious atmosphere on the playground.
  • T. Promotes safety and follows district discipline policy under the direction of the Building Administrator.
VI. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • A. Performs all other duties as assigned.
VII. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Thisis a part time position scheduled for 19.75hours per week.Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule Grade 6 $17.63 or $18.53 (with a bachelors degree or 5 years relevant experience) per hour for all of the positions listed. Any changes to these positions may cause a drop in salary to a grade 5.

This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The "employment at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.

VIII. EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.

This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
