Job summary

Idaho Falls School District 91 seeks a Special Program Aide to support special education students under the Building Administrator. Position is full-time, 34 hours weekly, with wages per the Classified Salary Schedule (Grade 5).

Responsibilities

  • A. Help teacher maintain organized, smooth class operations.
  • B. Prepare for classroom activities under supervision.
  • C. Work with small groups to reinforce material.
  • D. Assist individual children needing attention and behavior support.
  • E. Perform clerical duties related to assignment.
  • F. Guide independent tasks set by the teacher.
  • G. Assist with non-instructional classroom duties.
  • H. Check notebooks, grade papers, collect data, supervise testing.
  • I. Assist in student supervision as assigned.
  • J. Help prepare displays and bulletin boards.
  • K. Create supplementary materials under supervision.
  • L. Pursue ongoing job skill improvement through training.
  • M. Maintain ethical standards and confidentiality.
  • N. Maintain regular attendance.

TITLE: Special Program Aide

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A. Minimum 48 core college credits or a minimum score of 457 on the ParaPro Praxis..
  • B. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
  • C. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public.
  • D. Patient, yet firm.
  • E. Mandt training or the ability to complete Mandt training.
  • F. Able to lift up to 50 pounds and transfer heavier students with the assistance of appropriate equipment.
  • G. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory.
  • H. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

JOB GOALS
  • To support the delivery of School District 91's written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
  • To work closely with special education students on a regular basis to provide them with the support they need to gain full benefits from the District's special education program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • A. Helps the teacher provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
  • B. Prepares for classroom activities under the supervision of the Teacher.
  • C. Works with small groups of students to reinforce materials initially introduced by the teacher.
  • D. Assists individual children in need of special attention and children who need consistent behavior management techniques.
  • E. Performs clerical duties relating to their assignment.
  • F. Guides independent assignments established by the teacher.
  • G. Assists teacher with non-instructional classroom duties.
  • H. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, collects data, and supervises testing and make-up work.
  • I. Assists in duties relating to the supervision of students as assigned by the Building Principal.
  • J. Helps prepare class displays and bulletin boards.
  • K. Constructs supplementary materials for use in the classroom under the teacher's supervision.
  • L. Strives to improve and maintain job skills through inservice training programs and other means.
  • M. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • N. Has regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • A. Performs all other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a full-time position scheduled for 34 hours per week during the school year. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule asGrade 5 -$16.39 or $17.19 (with a Bachelors Degree or 5 years relevant experience) per hour.

This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The "employment at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.

EVALUATION

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
