Job summary

Vassar College's Music Library seeks a dedicated Music Library Specialist to join the team serving students, faculty, staff and the local community. The role reports to the Music Librarian and focuses on acquisition, preservation, and related cataloging duties in a full-time, in-person union position for the academic year.

Responsibilities include processing music materials, invoices, and catalog records, supporting circulation, and supervising student staff.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressively responsible administrative support experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with a diverse community.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and provide public services in high-traffic environments.

Responsibilities

• Place, verify, and receive orders for music materials and process invoices in the library system.
• Physically process music materials according to preservation protocols.
• Copy cataloging of monographs in WorldCat and the library's LSP system.
• Support operations: reconcile charges, monitor phone, and coordinate deliveries on campus.
• Work with staff to cover Circulation and Reserves Desk.
• Collaborate with staff and vendors to resolve issues within responsibilities.
• Prepare reports and statistics for the Music Librarian.
• Attend meetings and workshops; supervise student employees; assist with bindery shipments.
