Job summary

The Studio Museum in Harlem is seeking a part-time Security Guard to interact with visitors, provide directions, and safeguard the collection and staff. This role includes fire safety responsibilities and a commitment to 24/7/365 coverage when the Museum is open.

Candidates should be prepared to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Responsibilities include opening/closing procedures, patrols, reporting incidents, and enforcing policies to prevent damage or injury.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior experience in security or related field, preferably in a museum or public-facing environment.
• Proven ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or emergency situations.
• Experience monitoring security systems, conducting patrols, and writing incident reports.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to interact with diverse visitors and staff respectfully.

Responsibilities

• Conducts opening and closing procedures, including inspection of rooftop and galleries.
• Performs regular patrols and reports safety concerns to the supervisor.
• Enforces security policies to prevent theft, fire, damage, and personal injury.
• Prevents disorder and overcrowding; monitors safety conditions and CCTV when required.
• Completes daily logs and security reports; responds to emergencies as needed.
• Escort contractors/vendors and travel to other sites to perform security functions.
