Job summary

The Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York is seeking a Senior Manager of Operations to oversee daily maintenance, safety, and the presentation of the building, while coordinating cleaning, space scheduling, and vendor relations.

This role collaborates across departments to support events, rentals, and administration, supervising staff and contracted teams to ensure efficient operations and a welcoming environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in operations management or related field.
  • 5–7 years of progressive operations or facilities experience in museums or cultural venues.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and team‑leadership abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, facilities operations, and vendor management.
  • Experience supporting events, programs, or performances.
  • Familiarity with audio‑visual, lighting, and sound systems.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift/move equipment up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily maintenance and operational systems, supplies, cleaning, mail, and carting.
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, and service providers for building needs.
  • Schedule maintenance teams and related services to uphold cleanliness and presentation.
  • Oversee AV, lighting, sound, and theatrical systems; coordinate tech support for events.
  • Recommend and implement operational improvements and equipment upgrades.
  • Manage support for exhibitions, programs, performances, rentals, staffing, logistics, and post‑event restoration.
  • Maintain Building Calendar and coordinate cross‑department planning for space use.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, café tenants, and building partners.
  • Supervise and schedule Operations staff and contracted teams.
  • Oversee inventory, storage, maintenance, tracking, and replacements of equipment.
  • Develop and enforce facility operation policies and procedures.
  • Work with engineers and security to manage preventive maintenance and inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties to support Museum operations.
