Job summary

The New Museum is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor for the second shift to lead a six-person team and oversee all maintenance tasks across public areas, exhibition spaces, and back-of-house areas. You will report to the Facilities Director and work with Building Engineer and Senior Special Events Producer.

The role runs 8-hour shifts Wednesday–Sunday, starting at 1pm and ending around midnight, with schedule variations around public hours and events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with four years of maintenance supervision or related experience at a cultural institution.
• Strong staff supervision ability and strong communications skills.
• Proficiency in online supply purchasing and tracking inventory.
• Must be able to follow instructions and perform physical requirements of the position.

Responsibilities

• Supervise maintenance staff ensuring tasks meet museum standards.
• Create and monitor daily maintenance check lists and take corrective action.
• Perform general maintenance of electrical and plumbing systems and minor carpentry.
• Anticipate and address maintenance needs before issues are noticeable.
• Coordinate maintenance with Visitor Experience and Restaurant teams.
• Monitor, inventory, and store cleaning and maintenance supplies.
• Schedule maintenance for special events, programs, exhibitions, and rentals.
• Facilitate internal deliveries and storage of supplies.
• Inspect premises daily and report to Facilities Director and Building Engineer.
• Support Facilities Director and handle special assignments.
