Job summary

The New Britain Museum of American Art seeks a Learning and Engagement Specialist to support education programming, tours, and studio activities for diverse audiences.

You will manage program logistics, registrations, contracts, and data in Tessitura or similar systems, while collaborating with staff and volunteers to deliver engaging experiences.

The role requires strong communication, organization, and a passion for public education in a museum setting.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience working in education, art education, community-based organizations, or museums is required.
  • B.A. in Art, Art Education, Art History, Education, or other relevant Humanities field is required.
  • Experience and comfort working with K-12 audiences and in a public-facing role.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with basic artmaking processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate well both orally and in written form with visitors and colleagues of different ages, interests, and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of current museum and informal educational practices.
  • Research, writing, editing, and information management skills.
  • Proven project planning, coordination, and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to work well within deadlines on multiple and varied projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment while contributing to a positive, collaborative, and healthy work environment.
  • Demonstrated competency with databases and Customer Relationship Management systems for scheduling and reporting.
  • Demonstrated competency using presentation platforms including: Zoom, Meet, and Teams to deliver virtual programs.
  • Skilled in Google, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint applications

Responsibilities

  • Develop personal knowledge of permanent collection and American art to enhance public educational programming.
  • Develop knowledge of special exhibitions as they are presented at the Museum.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment for all.
  • Develop and grow relationships with staff and volunteers including Visitor Services, Docents, studio volunteers, and interns.
  • Collaborate on organization-wide learning and engagement initiatives.
  • Oversee Tessitura functions related to all Learning and Engagement programming, including building programs and tracking registrations.
  • Manage contracts and payments for contracted teachers, performers, lecturers, etc.
  • Coordinate promotional content with Marketing and other departments.
  • Meet content and editing deadlines; maintain programming documentation.
  • Produce reports on public educational programs and collect feedback.
  • Implement program evaluations and assessments.
  • Participate in research as directed by Director of Learning and Engagement.
  • Oversee surveys and evaluation for all programs.
