Job summary

African American Museum of Iowa in Cedar Rapids, IA seeks a Museum Educator to create and implement mission-centered educational programming. This full-time role reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with the Curator to manage tours, public programs, outreach, and partnerships.

The position requires creativity, organization, and independence while working with staff, volunteers, educators, and community partners. Travel up to ~120 miles and occasional evenings/weekends are expected.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree in History, Education, or another relevant discipline is preferred.
• Experience in a formal or informal education setting is desirable.
• Creative, self-directed, organized, and strong writer/public speaker.

Responsibilities

• Develop, schedule, implement, and evaluate tours, workshops, and outreach programs for all ages.
• Develop an extensive understanding of Iowa's African American history.
• Maintain a consistent schedule of on-site educational programs.
• Lead engaging guided tours for schools, community organizations, and the public.
• Support planning and implementation of the Juneteenth Festival with partnerships.
• Coordinate and deliver educational outreach programs up to 120 miles from the Museum.
• Build and maintain relationships with schools, educators, and cultural institutions.
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and interns for Education projects.
• Develop and manage Education Department budgets.
• Prepare reports and program data for executive leadership and grant reporting.
• Provide program information to the Communications Coordinator for marketing materials.
• Assist the Development Director with grant proposals and reporting.
