Job summary

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History seeks a Senior Collections Manager to supervise a professional team responsible for the long-term care and stewardship of the permanent collection. You will lead risk management, set goals for the collections team, ensure compliance with standards, and oversee the collections management system (EMu), records, and loans.

You will supervise staff and volunteers, manage acquisitions, and contribute to the annual budget while upholding strict ethical and legal

Qualifications

• : Bachelor’s degree preferred with demonstrable collections experience
• : 5-7 years of collections management experience
• : 5-7 years of supervisory experience, with strong management skills
• : 3-5 years of relational database experience required

Responsibilities

• Manage the care of all the Museum’s permanent collections objects
• Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards, including accreditation, provenance research, and repatriation regulations
• Lead risk management including environmental monitoring, security, disaster planning
• Oversee maintenance of collections records, digital and physical
• Supervise collections managers and recruit volunteers, interns, and work-study students
• Manage acquisition process for relevant collections and prepare objects for entry into permanent collection
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development for collections staff
• Perform duties according to museum policies
• Contribute to creation and maintenance of the annual collection department budget
• Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Collections or senior management
