Job summary

SFMOMA seeks a Collections Manager to lead care, storage, and access for modern and contemporary art in San Francisco. You will supervise a team across the Museum’s Third Street location and the Collections Center, ensuring safe housing, documentation, and access for curators and researchers.

The role emphasizes policy development, cross-department collaboration, and long-term planning for storage projects, with a focus on accessibility and preservation of the collection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Art Conservation, Art History, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum five years of related experience in museum registration and/or collections management.
• Minimum of three years of direct supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of registration methods and conservation concepts.
• Proficiency with collections management systems and MS Office.
• Experience with crating, packing, and transportation methods.

Responsibilities

• Lead Collections Care and Access Team at two locations.
• Plan and manage art storage at Third Street location and the Collections Center.
• Collaborate with Conservation, Registration, and Facilities.
• Oversee audits and inventories of the collection and documentation.
• Develop policies for Collections Management and art movement.
• Manage CC Preparator weekly schedules and related budgets.
