Job summary

The Walker Art Center is seeking a Building Engineer to be the day-to-day technical specialist for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the museum's building systems. You will work closely with the Manager and assist with general facilities needs.

This full-time, non-exempt role pays $35.50 per hour and involves a schedule that may include evenings or weekends. Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance and a retirement plan with employer contributions.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems in commercial or institutional facilities.
  • Ability to read plans, schematics, manuals, control sequences, and work orders; document readings and follow-up needs.
  • Minnesota boiler operator license and valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, monitor, and optimize HVAC, BAS/EMS, boilers, chillers, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Lead preventive and corrective maintenance; diagnose failures and return equipment to operating condition.
  • Create and update maintenance plans, equipment histories, and closeout notes in the work-order system.
  • Coordinate access, lockout/tagout, and site conditions for engineering vendors; review work for safety and quality.
