Job summary

City and County of San Francisco is seeking a part-time, on-call Admission Attendant for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, primarily working at the de Young or Legion of Honor entrances. Duties include selling tickets, admitting patrons, handling cash, and assisting visitors.

The position is temporary exempt with no benefits, requires at least one year of cash-handling/customer-service experience, and shifts are assigned based on museum needs; weekend availability preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: One (1) year (2,000 hours) verifiable experience as an admission attendant, cashier, or comparable position which requires assisting customers and handling cash on a daily basis.
• Desirable Qualifications: Extensive customer service background; Extensive retail background; Experience working in a museum or at a cultural institution; Experience working near high value art or around fragile and/or valuable materials; Ability to interact with the public and customers in a professional manner.

Responsibilities

• Sells, distributes and/or collects tickets, passes, memberships, and other products by personally receiving various types of payment from patrons of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Operates a cash register or a computerized system to register sale transactions.
• Sets up money trays by obtaining sufficient amounts of different denominations of dollars and coins in order to make change for Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco patrons.
• Prepares deposits by summarizing all receipts on a daily basis and preparing forms such as cash reconciliation sheets and deposit slips in order to bank monies at the end of a shift.
• Provides excellent customer service and information; responds to patrons' requests for directions and information about facilities & fees and other questions to aid patrons in their use and enjoyment of facilities and to actively promote sale of membership, audio tour, and products sold by the organizations.
• Assists with crowd control, counts visitors, and verifies admission receipts; assists in the issuance of will call tickets; and assists withinformation area.
• Lift, carry and place 25 lb stanchions as needed for crowd control.
• Maintains inventory of admission tickets and other products by tracking and maintaining appropriate level of inventory.
• Checks and ensures automated systems are functioning properly by cleaning, dusting, replacing, and/or changing receipt tapes, ticket rolls, and ink cartridges.
