Job Summary

Evaluating and managing inpatients on the Neurological Surgery Service. The successful applicant will be a full-time Advanced Practice Provider interested in caring for patients in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit. The APP will join a busy Neuroscience ICU Division with 5 Neuro-intensivists and 9 Advanced Practice Providers, with plans for expansion.

• Work Shift: 13-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, totaling 14 shifts per month

Patient Population

Focus: Neuroscience ICU
Age Range: 13 years to death

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
• Current or eligible licensure as a Physician Assistant or APRN

Preferred Experience

• At least 1 year of Neurosurgical care experience as a NP/PA-C, or relevant acute care experience for APRNs

Supervision and Licensure

Supervised by a MUSC-employed Physician; current BLS and ACLS certifications required. DHEC and DEA licenses should be initiated before start.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive histories and physical exams
• Evaluate and treat based on diagnostic results within scope of practice
• Perform therapeutic procedures like lumbar punctures, line placements, intubation, chest tubes, bronchoscopies, and more
• Initiate referrals, assist in surgeries, document care, and engage in quality improvement
• Support research, accreditation, and professional development activities

Additional Requirements

• Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent for Nurse Practitioners, or Physician Assistant certification
• Valid South Carolina licensure and certification within six months if new graduate
