Job summary

City of Durham is seeking a semi-skilled laborer to support the Environmental and Street Services Department. The role focuses on cleaning facilities and equipment, assisting with waste disposal, and performing basic maintenance tasks on vehicles and facilities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
• One year of maintenance experience related to assignment.
• A valid, unrestricted North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assisting customers with solid waste disposal and directing customers to disposal areas, educating about acceptable items.
• Maintaining recycling areas, cleaning and maintaining facility.
• Unloading items.
• Performs janitorial, housekeeping, and custodial duties, including cleaning floors, bathrooms, windows, and restocking supplies.
• Performs basic maintenance of equipment, inspections, minor repairs, and reports issues; operates small equipment and tools.
• Keeps records, performs data entry, generates work orders, and conducts inventory checks.
