Job summary

Sitka, City and Borough of (AK) seeks an Accounting Supervisor‑Tax to manage the municipal tax operations, including property and sales tax collection. The role requires professional discretion and technical expertise to perform daily tasks per department policies.

Under the Finance Director's supervision, you will supervise the tax staff, assist in audits, and ensure accurate GL entries, reconciliations, and compliance with GAAP and GASB standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, public administration, or related field.
• Five years of experience in governmental or public accounting, public sector preferred.
• Equivalent combination of experience, education, and training accepted.

Responsibilities

• Oversees sales and property tax office operations.
• Processes billing, accounting, and collections for property tax.
• Handles local improvement district/special assessments.
• Maintains general ledger entries for sales and property tax.
• Develops and manages property tax foreclosure process.
• Develops and manages sales tax audit process.
• Trains and supervises tax staff.
• Acts as front office backup when Tax Specialist unavailable.
• Supports annual audit preparations and responses to auditor data.
