Job summary

Sitka (CBS) — Finance is seeking a Finance Director to supervise the Finance Department, develop fiscal policies, and provide strategic financial guidance to municipal leadership. The role involves staff management, policy enforcement, and ensuring the municipality maintains strong financial health.

Qualifications

• Master Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
• Ten (10) years of experience in financial management with a focus on budgeting and fiscal planning, in the public sector preferred.
• Two (2) years of experience as a Finance Director or similar management position, in Alaska preferred.
• Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and evaluates the work of Finance Department staff.
• Oversees department staff performance and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Prepares, recommends, and justifies the department’s annual budget to the Municipal Administrator and Assembly.
• Approves and monitors expenditures within budget parameters.
• Advises on long-range financial plans and key fiscal policies to ensure fiscal health.
• Establishes and maintains all financial and accounting systems for the department.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of the Finance Department (budget, accounting, treasury, tax collection).
• Coordinates the Consolidated Operating Budget and presents it to the Assembly.
