City of Aurora’s Public Defender’s Office seeks an attorney with a Juris Doctorate and Colorado license to represent indigent defendants in the Aurora Municipal Court.

The role includes trial preparation, client counseling, and handling appeals, with collaboration across court staff to ensure efficient case processing. A strong litigation background and knowledge of Colorado law are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Must have Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and a Colorado license to practice law.
• Trial experience or trial practice class is required.

Responsibilities

• Represents indigent defendants in cases brought before the Municipal Court.
• Examines evidence, reviews, prepares, and presents cases.
• Counsels clients on legal rights and responsibilities.
• Initiates and defends appeals in appellate courts, when appropriate.
• Works on trials, hearings, client interviews, motions and/or appeals.
• Collaborates with court staff to ensure timely handling of cases.
• Follows established court procedures.
