Job summary

Town of Oro Valley seeks an experienced prosecutor to prosecute civil and misdemeanor offenses under the direction of the Town Attorney. You will conduct legal research, prepare opinions, and appear in court to advocate on behalf of the town.

You will oversee daily prosecution work, train police and staff on prosecution activities, and stay current with legislation affecting criminal cases. A JD and AZ bar license are required, with experience in municipal prosecution.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
• Two (2) years’ experience in criminal prosecution.
• Must possess and maintain a license to practice law in Arizona.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Conducts legal research and prepares legal reports, papers and opinions.
• Applies extensive knowledge in prosecution of civil and misdemeanor violations.
• Appears in courts to prosecute criminal cases.
• Prepares plea offers and related prosecution lists.
• Meets with Court personnel, attorneys, victims, defendants, and officers to discuss criminal law matters.
• Oversees daily prosecution work of assigned staff.
• Maintains professional licensing and attends CLE hours and events.
• Reviews legislation and professional articles affecting criminal prosecution.
