Job summary

The City of Lenexa is seeking a Prosecutor to join its legal team to prosecute Municipal Court cases and handle appeals to the District Court and other appellate courts.

The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate, Kansas Bar admission, and strong skills in communication, analysis, and practical problem solving, with a commitment to public service and working effectively with City staff, elected officials, and the public.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission in good standing to the Kansas State Bar and the United States District Court for the District of Kansas.
• Annual CLE requirements and a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Prepares cases for prosecution in Municipal Court and de novo appeals to District Court.
• Analyzes evidence and reviews related policies and legal matters.
• Conducts plea negotiations with defendants and defense attorneys.
• Drafts, reviews and interprets City Codes, ordinances and contracts as necessary for prosecution.
• Stays informed of new legal issues in criminal and municipal law.
• Reviews applications for diversion programs and requests arrest warrants when needed.
• Develops and administers training on legal issues for City departments.
• Communicates effectively with public officials, City staff and the public; maintains confidentiality.
• Drives city or personal vehicle to perform duties.
