Job summary

The City of Norwalk, Connecticut seeks a Municipal Assessor I to assist in appraisal and administrative work for the valuation of taxable properties to establish the Grand List. This role covers real, personal, and motor vehicle properties and requires practical assessment skills and field participation.

Responsibilities include data entry, preparing reports, assisting in revaluations, and providing information to property owners and professionals. On-site work in Norwalk is required.

Qualifications

• Connecticut Municipal Assessor I Certification or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in real and personal property valuation is desirable.
• Ability to apply municipal assessment principles and work with property owners.

Responsibilities

• Assist in appraisal and administrative work to establish the Grand List across real, personal, and motor vehicle properties.
• Perform field inspections and valuations; assist with clerical and data entry tasks in Real and Personal Property sections.
• Prepare statistical and narrative reports; provide information to property owners, attorneys, banks and the public.

Education

Connecticut Municipal Assessor I Certification

Associate’s degree in Business Administration or related field + 4 years valuation experience

Bachelor’s degree may substitute for 1 year valuation experience
