Job summary

Town of Wallingford is seeking a highly technical IT security professional to protect municipal systems, networks, and data. The role emphasizes hands-on threat detection, vulnerability management, and secure configuration across Windows Server, cloud, and VMware environments.

The position requires strong collaboration with multiple departments, ongoing learning, and occasional after-hours support for critical incidents and system maintenance.

Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge of network architecture, operating systems, and cybersecurity tools such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM platforms, and endpoint protection systems.
• Ability to identify, investigate, and remediate cybersecurity vulnerabilities and security incidents across Windows, network, and cloud environments.
• Good knowledge of VMware vSphere and virtualized server environments, including virtual machine management, host administration, storage, networking, and security best practices.

Responsibilities

• Configures, deploys, and maintains security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection platforms, and encryption tools.
• Monitors and secures Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and cloud services through identity and security best practices.
• Investigates phishing attempts, implements measures to reduce spam and malware, and enforces least-privilege access across systems.
• Assists in developing and executing incident response plans and documents security incidents for timely resolution.
