Job summary

The City of Lancaster is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our Equipment Services & City Facilities team. The Mechanic inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and overhauls municipal vehicles to maintain a safe and reliable City fleet.

Responsibilities include repairing engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical systems, and installing vehicle accessories. CDL class B is required and driving is part of the job. This role supports emergency vehicle operations.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
• Six months to one year of related experience or training.
• Valid Class B CDL with a clean driving record; driving is required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and overhaul municipal vehicles.
• Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension components.
• Perform front-end alignments, radiator work, and electrical/ignition repairs.
• Install or repair vehicle accessories and emergency equipment.
• Support operation of emergency vehicles and maintenance for City fleet.

Job description

The City of Lancaster, Texas is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our Equipment Services & City Facilities team.

The Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling municipal vehicles to help maintain a safe and reliable City fleet.

Primary duties include diagnosing vehicle damage and mechanical malfunctions; repairing and replacing engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, steering and suspension components; inspecting and replacing worn mechanical parts; repairing electrical and ignition systems; performing front-end alignments; repairing radiators and vehicle body components; and installing or repairing vehicle accessories.

The Mechanic also assists with the installation of emergency equipment and performs maintenance related to the operation of emergency vehicles.

This position provides an opportunity to use your automotive repair and mechanical skills while directly supporting the vehicles and equipment City employees rely on to serve the Lancaster community.

Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Candidates should possess the mechanical knowledge and skills necessary to inspect, diagnose, repair, and overhaul vehicles and related equipment. Work may include engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, steering and suspension systems, electrical and ignition systems, radiators, vehicle body components, accessories, and emergency vehicle equipment.

A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record is required. Driving is a requirement of this position.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
