Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of transportation engineering principles, laws, regulations, and standards.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Willingness to conduct site visits including overnight travel and extended outdoor work.

The role involves developing multimodal transportation improvement concepts, conducting engineering analyses, creating cost estimates, and leading planning studies that address corridor and active transportation needs. The engineer will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to support the planning and design process for transportation improvements.

Key qualifications:

• Advanced knowledge of transportation engineering principles, federal and state laws, regulations, and standards; experience developing cost estimates and conceptual diagrams
• Demonstrated application of engineering principles for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users; familiarity with AASHTO and NACTO design guidance
• Critical problem-solving skills and analytical thinking to address complex challenges while maintaining good practice standards
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with diverse audiences using multiple formats and methods
• Proficiency with Windows-based software including MS Office Suite, CAD, and MS Teams
• Ability to conduct site visits including overnight travel and extended outdoor work within Washington State
