Description

Alta is looking for a Transportation Engineer to join our growing Minneapolis office design team. This production-level position offers an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about transformative, multimodal, and sustainable transportation to advance their career. You will work on designing sustainable transportation projects that positively impact communities across Minnesota and beyond, including complete street reconfigurations, trail projects, and high-quality graphics. You will be mentored by national experts and collaborate with peers across the country.

Project work includes bikeway and shared use path design, streetscape, civil, and urban design. You will think at various scales from systems-level to specific sites or intersections, learning from industry leaders in active transport. Day to Day

You will lead and deliver a range of multimodal projects, including intersections, bikeways, complete streets, and trails. Responsibilities include geometric layout, grading, signing, storm drainage, traffic control, and project estimates. You will develop solutions to complex transportation challenges and participate in site visits, project documentation, client coordination, and team meetings. Support for grant applications, feasibility studies, and planning documents may also be required.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 2-5 years of engineering experience for Engineering Designer II
  • 4-6+ years for Engineering Designer III, preferably in consulting or public sector
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or related field
  • Experience with DOT and federally funded projects is preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Knowledge of active transportation and street design
  • Experience with transportation exhibits, drawings, and plans
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, or similar software

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
  • Proficiency in civil engineering software (OpenRoads, Civil3D, etc.)
  • Project management experience for private and public clients
  • Experience with Deltek Vision and travel willingness

Compensation: $73,000-$107,000 annually, based on experience.
