Job summary

Towson University’s Department of Film, Audio, and Media Arts is seeking a Multimedia Technician to provide technical and logistical support for our media production studios, post-production facilities, and computer labs.

Under the supervision of the Media Labs Supervisor, you will coordinate equipment lending, prepare gear for teaching, train student personnel, and assist faculty and students with media lab facilities to ensure smooth operation for coursework and events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Multimedia Technology or related field.
  • One year in the operation and maintenance of audio-visual or multimedia equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of multimedia equipment; of basic media systems and facilities design. Skill in the operation and repair of multimedia equipment. Ability to lead and train subordinate personnel; to use personal computers; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to work over, under and around fixed equipment; to work in confined spaces; to lift and carry multimedia equipment.
  • Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Job Summary

The Department of Film, Audio, Media Arts (FAMA) at Towson University is accepting applications for a Multimedia Technician. Under the supervision of the FAMA Media Labs Supervisor, this position provides technical and logistical support for our media production studios (including television studio, audio recording studios, animation lab, and production sound stage), post-production facilities and computer labs, multimedia production equipment, and our media equipment reservation and distribution services. The Multimedia Technician also coordinates with faculty, student groups, and the Media Labs on equipment lending, labs support, and readying equipment for teaching and demonstration. They will interface with media production courses that involve large-scope media production assignments, helping to coordinate student media production schedules with the Labs and offering some logistical support. The Multimedia Technician also helps the Media Lab Supervisor mentor and train student personnel and assists students and faculty with the use of Media Lab facilities.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain functionality of shared classrooms and computer labs.

  • Work with the Office of Technology Services to maintain computer inventory.

  • Collaborate with department Media Labs Supervisor, College Director of Technology and College staff to ensure technical operations and general preparedness and usability of department facilities and equipment.

  • Collaborate with Department faculty and staff and College Events and Operations staff to help support screenings, exhibits, and events.

  • Collaborate with Department Staff on building and inventory requests with Facilities and ABM.

  • Serve on COFAC Smith Hall Technology Staff Working Group.

  • Coordinate with faculty, student groups, and the Media Labs on equipment lending, labs support, and readying equipment for teaching and demonstration.

  • Assist students and faculty with the use of Media Lab equipment and facilities to support student assignments for courses and faculty teaching and research.

  • Assist the Media Lab Supervisor in training and mentoring student personnel to be able to successfully lend and return equipment and conduct first-level troubleshooting and support.

  • Interface with media production courses that involve large-scope media production assignments, helping to coordinate production and lab schedules and offering some logistical support to help long-term student projects, courses, and media labs work smoothly together.

  • Collaborate with department faculty and staff to help support media events, tours, recruitment activities, and other departmental events.


The work schedule for this position may include evenings or weekends on an occasional basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Proficient in software tools/systems e.g.: Adobe Creative Cloud, Pro Tools, DaVinci Resolve, Unity, Docusign; 25 Live Scheduling; Tech Help.

  • Experience working in a media production facility, equipment rental business, or media production lab at a college/university.

  • Experience in audio-visual setup and operation of public events, exhibitions, screenings, and lectures.

  • Advanced knowledge of the setup and maintenance of professional audio recording studios.

  • Knowledge of safety standards and professional practice on media production sets.

  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse team and work in a diverse environment.
