The Bangor Daily News is looking for a visually focused editor to grow our digital audiences and find compelling new ways to enhance our coverage. This is a role for a journalist who loves video, understands what makes a story interesting and wants to shape how the BDN connects with audiences online.
This job is focused on ensuring stories have strong visuals and that we’re adapting content to vertical video wherever possible. You’d pull multimedia from our own archives and from around the web to deepen readers' understanding of a story. You'll create video, as well as solicit and edit videos from creators, freelancers and staff. You'll regularly build visual-focused stories and create original multimedia such as graphics and charts for our platforms. You'll research new platforms and tactics for telling stories online.
Working with the Chief Digital Editor, you'll identify special projects suited to unique layouts, then design them in WordPress, partnering with staff and developers as needed to get them published. You'll keep a close, competitive eye on other local and national outlets chasing the same audience, and push us to be better than them.
You'll pitch in with the News Desk on editing, publishing and promotion on a limited role as needed.
