Job summary

The Lawson Companies, Inc. in Virginia Beach, VA seeks an Assistant Project Manager to support a fast-paced multifamily construction program from our Northern, VA base.

The role emphasizes timely reporting, coordination with designers and subcontractors, and helping ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery across phases. Ideal candidates have 1–3 years in construction, strong scheduling, budgeting, and document control skills, plus proficiency with Procore and Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years' experience in the construction industry, preferably with an owner/general contractor.
• Familiarity with scheduling, budgeting, subcontract coordination, and general construction processes.
• Ability to read drawings and specifications. Procore and Microsoft Office proficiency required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the project team with safety, scheduling, and budgeting management.
• Support PM to ensure plans, specs, and program requirements are followed.
• Coordinate material purchasing and issuing POs/WO; perform takeoffs.
• Prepare change orders for PM review and track changes.
• Attend monthly on-site financial draw inspections and permit tracking.
• Capture, log, and track submittals; review packages for PM.
• Prepare RFIs for PM; work with supervision to close out QC and punch lists.
• Assist with turnover to property management and warranty coordination.
• Review monthly invoices; facilitate re-application for payment when needed.
• Provide training support to Property Management; assist in turnover and project closeout.
