Job summary

Brigham Young University (BYU) is seeking an experienced Multicultural Advisor to mentor and coach multicultural students in academics, finances, culture, and social needs. The role focuses on directing advisement through outcomes and connecting students with critical resources for successful BYU participation.

Responsibilities include ongoing advisement, graduation planning, and helping students engage in extracurricular opportunities that align with the Aims of a BYU Education.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in advisement, counseling, higher education, social work, or relevant area and 2 years of advisement experience.
• Master’s degree in relevant area and graduate coursework in counseling, advising, social work or higher education and 2 years of advisement experience.
• Knowledge of student development theory and program management.
• Knowledge of and commitment to the mission and goals of the University, including the Aims of a BYU Education and the University Statement on Fostering an Enriched Environment.
• Demonstrated initiative, independent thinking, and ability to organize tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic advisement (academic, financial, personal, cultural) to multicultural students.
• Build supportive relationships and help students identify and resolve challenges.
• Guide graduation planning and educate on core requirements using learning outcomes.
• Document interactions, track student progress, and follow up with at-risk students.
• Connect students to campus resources and support scholarship processes and events.
