Job summary

The City of Lakeland is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to repair and maintain buildings, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and related mechanical equipment. This role may supervise a small team and operates with general supervision, evaluated during and after work. Overtime or alternate hours may be required for department efficiency.

This is a mission critical position within the City. Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, two years in building trades,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years in various building trades work required.
  • Must have completed training in gas and electric welding, brazing, soldering, and air conditioning.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Type-II Refrigeration Service Engineers Society license on proper refrigerant practices.

Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs and adjustments to plumbing, HVAC, electrical fixtures, doors, windows, and locks; maintains pumps and small engines.
  • Changes ballast and transformers on light fixtures; installs and repairs electrical circuits.
  • Initiates repairs to air-conditioning systems; checks circuits and installs low-voltage thermostats and controls.
  • Repairs all plumbing systems (cast iron, PVC, CPVC, copper) and boilers.
  • Repairs ice machines, water coolers; changes compressors and recharges systems; checks motors and fans.
