Job summary

The Village of Ruidoso seeks a non-exempt Building Inspector reporting to the Community Development Director. This role conducts inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial projects to ensure compliance with state and local codes, including building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

Qualifications

  • High School Education or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of three years of construction trades experience at a journeyman/foreman level.
  • An exam/assessment to test for CID/ICC certifications or equivalent.
  • May substitute up to two years of experience with relevant training.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans and specs for code compliance and approve permits.
  • Inspect new construction and alterations; verify materials and deviations.
  • Issue violations and stop-work orders until compliant; maintain logs and photos.
  • Provide customer service and explain codes to homeowners and contractors.
  • Update inspection records and project files; communicate with Village staff.
