Job summary

The City of Aurora is hiring a Code Compliance Officer/Combination Inspector in the Division of Building and Permits. This on-site role performs multi-trade inspections (building, electrical, fire, mechanical, plumbing) and enforces relevant codes and ordinances across areas including zoning and property maintenance.

Qualified candidates will have five years of construction experience in three trades, ICC designations plus Residential Combination Inspector and Residential Energy Inspector/Plans

Qualifications

• Five years of construction experience in three trades required.
• Must possess three ICC Designations plus Residential Combination Inspector and Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must pass pre-hire medical, drug screen and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily activities of Code Compliance Officers.
• Schedule final inspections for residential and commercial work.
• Assist in developing inspection policy and training of staff.
• Provide code interpretations in the field and assist plan examiners.
• Perform on-site multi-trade inspections to verify code compliance.
• Review building permit applications for conformity with codes.
• Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding codes and safety.
• Prepare detailed records, reports and testify in court when required.
• Investigate substandard work and advise on license revocation where applicable.
• Support enforcement actions and amendments to codes and ordinances.
