Job summary

Power/mation in Saint Paul, Minnesota seeks a Payroll & Commission Accountant to own payroll and commission processing while supporting accounting, audit, and financial reporting activities. You will serve as the primary resource for payroll administration, sales commission processing, payroll tax compliance, and related accounting functions.

You will work with employees, sales representatives, leadership, auditors, and external partners to ensure accuracy, compliance, and exceptional service

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience with payroll processing responsibilities.
• Recent hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now.
• Strong knowledge of payroll processes, payroll tax regulations, and general accounting principles.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and discretion.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Process accurate and timely multi-state bi-weekly payroll through ADP Workforce Now.
• Maintain employee payroll records and payroll system data.
• Process payroll-related funding activities, including 401(k), HSA, profit-sharing, and other benefits.
• Prepare and file federal, state, and local payroll tax filings and unemployment reports.
• Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve payroll-related issues.
• Calculate, prepare, and distribute sales commission statements and payments.
• Allocate commissions and prepare supporting schedules and adjustments.
• Prepare commission expense schedules and reconcile commission-related transactions.
• Prepare recurring journal entries, including payroll accruals, PTO accruals, allocations, and petty cash.
• Complete account reconciliations and perform analysis as needed.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
• Generate payroll, commission, and accounting reports for management.
• Support budgeting activities, special projects, and other accounting initiatives.
• Lead preparation of year-end payroll and accounting audit workpapers.
• Coordinate the annual 401(k) audit and resolve discrepancies.
