Job summary

The Arc of Central Alabama is seeking a skilled Carpenter to support maintenance, repair, and improvements across group homes, healthcare settings, offices, and transit facilities. You will read blueprints, install and repair framing, trim, doors, and fixtures, and ensure ADA accessibility and safety compliance.

Position requires 3–5 years of carpentry or construction experience, knowledge of building codes, and the ability to pass background checks and drug screening.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 3–5 years carpentry or general construction experience preferred.
• Experience in healthcare, residential/group homes, or multi-site facilities is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, and safety regulations.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must pass statewide/criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Perform rough and finish carpentry including framing, drywall, trim, cabinetry, and door/window installation.
• Repair walls, ceilings, flooring, and structural components as needed.
• Install and maintain fixtures such as handrails, shelving, cabinets, and safety equipment.
• Modify work to ensure ADA accessibility and safety compliance.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders.
• Assist with general maintenance tasks including minor plumbing, painting, and repairs.
• Support turnovers in group homes during resident transitions.
• Maintain common areas, offices, and high-traffic spaces.
• Assist with facility upgrades, renovations, and small construction projects.
• Support preventive maintenance programs.
• Follow local building codes, OSHA regulations, and CARF standards.
